Safe magnetic lift – THW uses permanent lifting magnet from UNICRAFT

The Unimog crane of the THW local association in Baiersdorf, Central Franconia, is a helpful and much needed assistant in emergencies such as rescue work, serious traffic accidents, explosions or natural disasters. For over 20 years, the Unimog crane, that was significantly expanded over the years, has been called upon to help in many places, both at home and abroad. Now the all-terrain recovery vehicle has been supplemented with additional attachments. This will enable even more specific applications in the future and ensure extra safety.

For flat and round material with a load capacity of 1,000 kg

The focus was on the lifting magnet being able to lift flat and round material safely at all times, even in hard-to-reach places. Ultimately, the choice fell on the permanent lifting magnet PLM 1001 from UNICRAFT, which optimally meets the complex requirements of the emergency services. With a load capacity of 1,000 kg, the lifting magnet from UNICRAFT is ideal for all common THW applications.  Due to its easy handling and the convenient switch on/off mechanism via a lever, the PLM 1001 model is quickly ready for use at any time, especially when every minute counts. A safety lock when activated ensures that the lever is locked, so that there is always safe contact between the magnet and the load and unintentional demagnetisation is being prevented.

Handy use, functionality and price-performance convinced

Its handy use and functionality at a good price were ultimately the decisive criteria for THW Baiersdorf to add the PLM 1001 permanent load lifting magnet from UNICRAFT to their recovery vehicle. With their campaign "Lift heavy loads safely - accessories for the THW Unimog crane", the Förderverein THW Baiersdorf e.V. was able to find enough supporters to purchase not only the load lifting magnet but also other lifting tools from UNICRAFT. These include a drum lifting clamp and a lever clamp for turning metal sheets and steel plates.

The Unimog crane of THW Baiersdorf has now been in use for more than two decades and has since been expanded with numerous attachments. Whether a lifting basket, a light cube or a clamshell grab, the steadily growing accessories have transformed the Unimog crane over the years into a universal emergency vehicle that is used in traffic accidents, natural disasters and fires, also internationally. With the PLM 1001 permanent load magnet from UNICRAFT, the rescue vehicle now has another component that makes lifting heavy loads safer, even in rough terrain - regardless of battery or external power supply.
